Andrea’s life saving surgery

Almost a year ago my wife Andrea was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. As many of you know, she has been managing a bleeding and clotting disorder, factor 1 hemophilia, her entire life. Unfortunately, while on blood thinners, she had been developing numerous clots in her lungs for an unknown amount of time. Even with treatment, these clots have caused a large amount of pressure to be put on her heart and she now has been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, more specifically, CTEPH. It has taken a major toll on her life in the months leading up to and since the diagnosis. She is on oxygen and has had to adjust to everyday life as she continues to decline in health. Luckily, she has been given an opportunity to travel to San Diego in the coming months as a candidate for pulmonary thromboendarterectomy surgery (PTE). It will be a chance to potentially save her life, and improve her quality of life to a new sense of normal. Andrea is a bone marrow transplant and oncology nurse at Children’s Hospital Colorado. She works with oncology children and feels very rewarded with her career. She has a very personal connection with her patients, and goes the extra mile to always make sure that children and families are comfortable while they go through treatment.
As a family, my wife Andrea and I will be taking time from work to travel to San Diego for up to a month of further testing, hopefully surgery, and ensuing recovery. We will be using this money to help allievate our monthly bills while we are out of work, and to be able to rent a place, car, eat, and pay for upfront medical costs while we are in San Diego. Andrea hopes to return to work as soon as possible, following surgery, but has been told to expect to be out of work for a minimum of three months. We appreciate any help you can offer, but we appreciate your moral support even more.
