Andrea’s Battle with Breast Cancer
Donation protected
Hi everyone, My name is Ariah Hirashima. My mom Andrea Dudoit was diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer (ER/PR+HER2-) back in June 2023.
A little back story about my Mom, my Mom is surrounded by my 4 siblings, myself and 11 grandchildren. If you’re from Molokai you know my mom from “Homestead Grinds” and the Ono food she would make 3+ times a week. Homestead grinds was something she enjoyed doing, she loved cooking and brainstorming new food ideas to bring to Molokai since our home island doesn’t have a wide variety of foods to choose from. Since being unemployed for 3 years Homestead Grinds became her only source of income to pay her bills.
Back in June 2023 after waiting for her results from her biopsy she had done in Oahu, she finally got the call. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. It took a while for her team of doctors to decide what treatment plan would be best for her after then finding out it had spread to her Lymph Nodes. They decided 16 rounds of Chemotherapy followed by a Mastectomy and 20 rounds of Radiation. She then had to prepare herself to fly to Oahu once every 2 weeks for treatment and soon after once every week.
September 2023 she started her first round of Chemo on Oahu, soon after her first couple treatments she started loosing her hair but she kept her spirits high for her family. Her main motivation that got her through the pain was her will to live for her grandchildren and be present for them. Through her treatments she had no income, she had to sell her things to make money to pay her bills, personal hygiene items and travel expenses that her Medical wouldn’t cover since she was flying back and forth from Molokai to Oahu. After getting denied financial assistance time and time again, her oldest son helped her as much as he could financially.
November 2023 the side affects from her treatments took a big toll on her body, she ended up hospitalized and in her own words it felt like she was for sure dying and it scared her. After being released from the hospital she flew home only to fly back a few days later for treatment, she asked them not to do this round as she was already too weak and knew her body could not handle it. Her doctors then decided to put a hold on chemo and get a new set of images that’ll determine if they can already do the double mastectomy. Next week she flies to Oahu to get those images done.
My mom isn’t one to ask for monetary help which is why it took a while to finally make a go fund me. This isn’t the end of her journey she has a longs way to go.
Any help given is greatly appreciated, everything will go towards her monthly bills, personal expenses and travel expenses. She also has Venmo @AndreaDudoit and Cash app $AndreaDudoit for anyone who’d rather donate that way. If you’re not able to donate, prayers do go a long way!
She hopes after she beats this cancer she can go back to her day to day life with her family and cook Molokai some Ono food again.
Mahalo!
