Andrea's fight against Chordoma.
Andrea Long was diagnosed with a rare type of cancerous tumor called Chordoma just a few short weeks ago. She had surgery to remove the tumor at Duke Hospital in North Carolina and now must have Photon beam radiation therapy treatment.
This type of radiation therapy uses x-rays or gamma rays that come from a special machine called a linear accelerator (linac). The radiation dose is delivered at the surface of the body and goes into the tumor and through the body.
This targeted radiation therapy is 5 days a week for 6 weeks. There are only 5 places in the United States that offer this type of radiation for her type of cancer - none of which are close to where they live!
When I found out about Andrea's diagnosis, my heart was broken. Andrea is the most kind and caring person I know - when our son was battling cancer, Andrea was the one who continually supported us -- we need to give her the same support!
Please help us raise funds for Andrea's treatment - they do have insurance, but travel expenses, and deductibles add up quickly! Andrea and Steve have 2 children who are both in school and Steve just recently retired from the Marine Corps.
