Rebuild Andre & Magali's Farm

My name is David Melchor, I was born and raised in Madrid, but have been living in Puerto Rico for a long time... 5 years ago I had the priviledge to meet Andre and Magali through a common friend. I was impressed by their story and the beauty of their souls. We have spent many magical moments together at their farm in the mountains of Carite and have become really close over the years. I decided to put this initiative together to help them recuperate after the storm. 100% of the funds will be given to Andre & Maga through a cashier check the first week of April. All the funds are going to rebuild their farm (new roof, bathroom and kitchen in the main house and also to clean up and remove all the debris from the farm). The reconstruction project will be supervised by Architect Pedro Cardona Roig, who is also a friend of Magali and Andre. We will keep posting photos as we make progress with the rebuild.
This is their story:
On September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria raged across Puerto Rico and destroyed the residence and family farm of Andre and Magali in the small mountainous town of Carites. Since then, they have been living without a roof and Magali has health conditions that require her to be in a wheelchair.
Andre has been farming for 25 years, and is a botanist with wisdom about the medicinal plants of Puerto Rico. Andre's dream is to leave a legacy of organic farming and provide healing through the backyard pharmacy of medicinal plants growing wild on his property. Planned crops after the homestead and farm is rebuilt include cacao, plátano, café, lettuce, tomatoes, mustard, bok choy, herbs for teas, and medicinal plants.
In order to continue organic farming on this property, the main house needs to be rebuilt first.
Phase 1 of the project focuses on rebuilding the main house and clean up the farm removing debris:
$15,000 - Put a roof over their head (materials & labor cost)
$10,000 - Debris removal (excavator & dumpster rental)
$5,000 - Build a functioning kitchen and bathroom
The deadline for raising these funds is 3/31/2018.
