Andi Needs Your Help

On Saturday August 12th 27 year old Andi became very disoriented. She went to her doctor and he sent her home and said she was fine. She went back Sunday and the same thing. By Sunday she forgot how to dress herself. Monday August 14th her dad took her to the ER at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster. The doctors there did 2 MRIs and blood tests. They said she had a stroke, then MS, then West Nile. They had no clue what it was but did confirm swelling in her brain. While there, she lost the ability to walk and her left side completely weakened. Then she lost the ability to talk. She can hear and understand you but she can't talk, she can only scream.

They transfered her to UCLA Harbor in Torrance on Wednesday August 23rd, but her condition remains the same. She has 2 doctors running tests and trying to diagnose her. Finally (we hope), they think they know the cause but will not say until her tests come back and are certain. She has physical theraphy where they come in and move her arms and legs to prevent them from locking in place.

The hospital is 160 miles roundtrip from their home. Dennis took two weeks off of work but will need to return next week. Mary is staying with Andi but needs to make trips back to their home in Lancaster to take check in on other members of the family. Andi has health insurance but as it is unclear the cause of this illness, we're anticipating several more days of tests before she can even start treatment. After that Andi will start the road to recover with physical theraphy. Unfortunately, round the clock medical care will place a heavy financial burden on the family.
