Andi Schools Cancer

Hello Friends! In an effort to keep everyone up to date, and to also alleviate the burden on Andi and Jason to repeat their story countless times, we have set up a website to keep everyone informed.  We ask that you refer to the website for any questions or information, as we will update it frequently.

We’ve had many of you inquire how you can help with food, housework, financial donations, etc.  Jason and Andi have requested that we give them time to figure out exactly what their next steps will be with their treatment plan, and we will update this site accordingly.

Note from Andi:

In December, I had my regularly scheduled mammogram, which was clean and clear, with no issues detected.  In early August, I detected a small lump in my right breast.  I quickly scheduled an appointment, where a mammogram and sonogram were performed, confirming the lump I had discovered.

I quickly got into see a breast specialist who then performed a biopsy, revealing that it was indeed cancer.  The lump was oddly shaped, which prompted my doctor to request an MRI.  The MRI detected 2 additional lumps, both larger and deeper than the original.  I have been diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Grade 2 (medium- not a lot of cell division)  Stage 1-2.  Monday September 17 I met with my reconstructive surgeon to discuss options since I will be having a double mastectomy, which is currently scheduled for this Friday.

Jason and I are overwhelmed with the love, support, prayers and concerns for our family, and want everyone to know that we are reading each and every message.  I am truly grateful. I am SO FORTUNATE to have a tribe of people who love and support me, and are genuinely interested in helping me in any way possible.

This news has not been easy to digest, in fact, it doesn’t quite seem real to me as of yet.  I’m certain that no person ever anticipates that cancer will one day be a part of his or her story- but here we are.   I feel ill equipped to plan for this, completely unaware of what to expect.  However, I have wonderful friends who have walked this journey before, and are giving me insight into the type of help I may need in the months ahead.   At this point, I honestly don’t even know what I need, but feel this will become more clear over the next couple of weeks.

The only thing that makes this easier is having such amazing family and friends to walk with me through this journey.  I can wholeheartedly state that I do not feel alone in this- and I know that God’s got this!

With Love,

Andi
