Let's Help Joe w/ Amputee Expenses

...Getting a leg amputation is stressful enough as is; Let's help Joe pay off his medical bills...

My friend Joe has to have part of his leg amputated in 3 days. I can't even begin to imagine the weight of such a decision and event in a person's life, nor can I believe how gracefully and Joe is taking both the news and the decision.

Joe has been a part of my life since I photographed him for my book MetalCats, which has put proceeds towards no-kill shelters along the west coast. I remember during our photoshoot that Joe was so excited to be able to help animals and create better lives for other living things through the project, that he was willing to promote the photos and the project just to get visibility for the plight and welfare of rescue pets. Now I feel like it's time to show him that we all care SO deeply about his well being too.

We all know how stressful and difficult it can be to pay off medical expenses, especially when one is ill or incapacitated to some degree. I'm hoping to help cover part of his hospital fees, his prosthetic leg, food costs, aftercare costs such as physical therapy, and/or any caregiving costs he might incur.  Since Joe won't be able to work for quite a while after his surgery, and will also have extra costs related to needing this caretaking 24 hours a day as he rehabilitates, this is especially important to really show him what an impact he has made on his community and that we all want him to get better soon and be back to his normal amazing self: We want to see him playing shows, hanging with friends and being a fantastic advocate for others.

Now...I know Joe has a hard time asking for help.  Beyond this, I know that Joe received alot of fantastic support from friends over the past year or more as he transitioned into his current health state and decision after having multiple serious bloodclots and hospital stays related to very severe medical needs at that time.  He has told me about a million times how appreciative he was of all the support, and I know he means it.  As much as he has a hard time asking for him, he is absolutely shocked and humbled by how generous and kind people have been in regards to his condition.  What I told him back, though, was that he also needs to realize that his life is precious, his livelihood and happiness a necessity for those who care about him far and wide.

Please join me in showing a little bit of that generosity, support and love that Joe needs right now so that as he goes through this surgery and rehabilitates into a new life without a part of himself, that he can feel filled with other's caring for him and hopefully somewhat rejuvinated.  Genuinely I believe that even a dollar, ten dollars, twenty dollars makes a huge difference.  Please share what you can, and know that if the time comes that you need similar help(although hopefully it never comes to this for anyone else), people will be there to support you too.

Thanks for taking the time to read and be a part of this.

Kittens + Metal Forever and Ever,

Alex

PS, I've estimated the cost that I was able to calculate on my own, but if we go above and beyond I KNOW there will be plenty of uses for extra funds as new things ALWAYS come up with serious and intense surgeries like this.
