Ananda Aged Care Resilience Run (for older persons' mental health & CFS SA).

Resilience Run - the story

Initially this was going to be a new year's resolutions run for older persons' mental health in aged care, though the bushfire crisis changed approach slightly to assist the many staff and residents who wanted to contribute to the relief funds.  Both causes are linked and half the money will go to CFS SA and half to resident and staff chosen projects related to mental well-being at Ananda Aged Care, Adelaide, SA.  When you donate have your say!

What is Resilience Run?

Michael Page, Workforce Development Manager at Ananda, will run, walk and possibly crawl at least 42.2km (marathon) and possibly an ultramarathon depending on funds pledged, on Sunday May 3rd, between Ananda's homes at Findon and Hope Valley via Linear Park.  Mental illness or mental health issues like anxiety, depression or social isolation take heaps of resilience to overcome, and resilience is a word synonymous with firees and bushfire affected Aussies who will all require shed loads to come through the current crisis.

What is the aim?

The aim is to involve staff and residents in activity to show the benefits of exercise on well-being at any age and to highlight mental health issues in older Australians.  Clearly it is important to raise as much money as possible money for the bushfire relief efforts in SA, not just immediately but for the longer term recovery.

How can you help?

We are looking for corporate sponsors to pledge $250 each,  and for Kilometre adopters to donate $50 to 'adopt a kilometre' as an individual or a community.  Kilometres 1 and 42 are a premium $100!

Its not only about the oney however and people can get involved anyway they can, pledging a few dollars to lose weight, run couch to 5km or anything that is fun! Some runners may want to join Michael on the day for part (or all?) of the run which will take in some lovely Linear Park sights but will be entirely self supporting on the route.

Michael will pledge $50 per kilogram weight lost between Jan 1 and the end of the run and will sponsor kilometre 27 - the classic start of the Wall in a marathon
You may well already be involved in bushfire relief in other ways though please start thinking of fun ways to get involved and involve our staff an residents, and do give what you can to a cause we all know is so important.

Thank you!
