Ana has always been a fighter and a lover of life. She grew up an Air Force brat and she herself served in the Air Force. This is one of the reasons she approaches life unafraid and with an indomitable spirit. Ana is also generous, funny and one of the best people we have the pleasure of knowing.
In August of 2017, at the age of 50, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. We were all devastated, but chose to be a united front in the battle of all of our lives. Ana is not only a sister, but she is also a daughter, a wife, and most importantly, a great mother to two beautiful young ladies (aged 12 and 13). She is also a supportive friend to many. She has remained extremely positive and strong and has not lost her sense of humor. She still has a lot of life left to live and refuses to give up hope. She knows this is the fight of her life, but she is one heck of a fighter!
Ana had a double mastectomy on November 1, and began chemotherapy shortly there after. Her prognosis is good, but the cancer spread to her lymph nodes and she has a long road of treatment and recovery ahead of her. She will continue chemotherapy for a total of three months, followed by radiation every day for five weeks, then finally, reconstructive surgery, which will take eight weeks to recover.
Her husband, Gary, is the epitome of supportiveness, love, and strength. Ana calls him her angel on Earth. Unfortunately, Gary has been laid off, and he will lose his health insurance, which has been covering most of Ana's medical costs. All at once, Ana and her family have found themselves in a precarious financial situation. They have to travel to Stanford, from Clovis, for all of her treatments. They will need funds for transportation and lodging, and would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you for any support and prayers!!
