Medical Bills for "Freeway" the Cat

Donation protected
"Freeway" is a stray kitten, probably less than a year old, (after talking to the Vet, he guesses that she is actually about 7-8 weeks old) that was found hit and lying in the middle of the freeway in Kaimuki. Cars were driving over her as she lay in the middle of the lane, sticking her head up in between passing vehicles and trying to still limp across the road with a badly broken front leg. After finally getting her in the car and taking her to the vet, their intial assessment of her also included possible internal bleeding and head trauma, her left humerus is shattered right at the joint, and she has a hernia. We are trying to raise money to help with her medical expenses. The initial exam and test to check on her head trauma and internal bleeding is $700, not including cost for her limb, which the vet said was "non-life threatning."

Update 6/24/2014 Vet says "Freeway" is doing better. (By the way, she got the name Freeway because thats what the aid that helped check her in put down on her chart) She is eating and drinking and been changed to oral medication instead of injection. The next step is to assess what treatments need to be done to her shattered left humerus, more than likely amputation, and surgery to repair her hernia and to put some of her organs which have become dislodged back into place. Her Veternarian is very optimistic of her recovery now that she seems to be responding to the medication and the effects of the head trauma seem to be getting better.

Update 6/25/2014: Vet called to say the Freeway is doing much better. Had her first bowel movement since being admitted, which is a good sign since there was some concern regarding her bladder and intestines, which was swollen and protuding through her abdominal wall. She was also up and moving around when I went to visit, so the Vet was saying she should have no trouble when they amputate her front leg. Many of the Veternarian Assistants came by to mention what a sweetheart she is. Her regular Vet was off today so have to go back tomorrow to discuss with him setting up the surgery to repair her abdomen and amputate her leg.

Update 6/26/2014: Had a chance to sit down with the Vet and discuss the options for Freeway. Looks like we going to try and get her into surgery Tuesday to amputate the arm, fix the hernia and spay her, as long as her blood work checks out. She was very active today and was trying to play, despite her broken leg. Eyes look just about normal and everything seems to be working well with her digestion. I'll post a new video later tonight.
