<div>The Nile is a vital artery of Africa. A river that has carried creation, language, myth, devotion, and survival on her back for thousands of years. Egypt is her final keeper, where she empties her memory into the sea. And today, those of us born from her waters feel the weight of something shifting.
</div>

<div>We write to you as a team of young creatives from the Nile basin, carrying in our bones the ache of a river threatened, neglected, and drifting from the heart of its own people.
</div>

</div>
<div>This river is much more than a metaphor to us. She is our ancestry, our breath, and our lifeblood - the very waters that run through our veins and enliven our stories. She is the body that has shaped our bodies.
</div>

</div>
<div>As the geopolitical tensions around the Nile and the dam escalate, causing ecological strain, what began as a quiet fracture is revealing it’s devastating reach: the distance between the river and those who were once in constant conversation with her.
</div>

<div>We carry that grief in our hearts, and with it, an unmistakable longing for reverence to return.
</div>

<div>This project is our response as we yearn to restore what has been severed.

<div><strong>Who we are:</strong>
</div>
<div>We are Les Shapeshifters, an artist-led collective producing music, performances, residencies, and research projects that reconnect people with nature and cultural memory. We work across disciplines: sound, story, art, science, spirituality, and ecological practice: to build community, cultivate healing, and inspire new ways of relating to our shared future.

<div>On December 21, 2025, at sunset, aboard a traditional felucca drifting through Cairo, a small circle of Egyptian artists, musicians, poets, filmmakers, and cultural stewards will gather to offer <strong>An Ode to the Nile: an intimate, live offering of music and sound performed directly for the river herself.</strong>
</div>

<div>She is the muse and audience. For the river who raised us, we do not bring spectacle or performances to be praised by men. We come offering our presence, our instruments, our voices, and our willingness to witness and be witnessed. To remember that we belong to each other, as we stand on her banks as descendants returning home.
</div>

</div>
<div>Each day, the pressure on the river grows heavier. The proposed dam could bring devastation and profound ecological, cultural, and spiritual loss. Yet within that pressure, a fire of responsibility also rises — an opportunity to heal the rupture and to return to coherence with her.
</div>

<div><strong> Why Music? Why Play for Nature?</strong>

<div>Because sound is our oldest, most ancient oﬀering. Our shared language.
</div>

<div>Before there were words, there were waves of sound. Before prayer, there was resonance. Nature has always spoken in vibration, birdsong, water currents, animal calls, wind, and heartbeats, and her rhythms create and sustain all of life.
</div>

</div>
<div>To play for nature is to remember that we are always in co-creation with her, and letting her cadence inform our own is a form of love.
</div>

</div>
<div>It is to acknowledge that the Earth is not a passive landscape. It is a sentient orchestra that hums beneath our feet and echos inside our blood. When we play for the Nile, we come humbly to receive not only her beauty, but her grief. To attune to all we have forgotten. To remind her that she is still cherished despite the harm she endures, and we remind ourselves that her body is our body.
