Dear Donor,
Hi, if you don't know me my name is Lindsey Slimmer and I'm that kid that stayed in the art room during high school. You know, the one who painted all of the paintings and made all of the pottery.
The one who stayed after school rather than going home and hanging with friends. The one who helped painted the set for musicals and plays. Always going to the local art studio and art gallery spending most of their summer vacation taking classes there. The one who got most artistic in the yearbook they helped design. The one who always kept her grades high to be in national honor society and to graduate in the top ten percent of their class. The one that volunteered at the Elks club and remembered your grandmother's order on Bingo night.
Yea you know me, the one who struggles with depression and was in and out of the crisis unit at the hospital three times. The one who left their abusive family to move three different times, this year, just so I wouldn't have to go back. The one who tried to always make other people smile when they couldn't smile on their own. The one who isn't allowed to see her grandparents, the ones who raised her because her parents left, because she had to choose to be on her own rather than abused by her other family that moved in the house. The one who is best friends with their art teacher, rather than best friends with someone their own age, so she could understand how to get ahead of the game. The one who battled bullying and self harm since they were big enough to go to school. The one who powered through all of this rather then giving up. The one who is trying their hardest to go college. The one who received numerous scholarships for tens of thousands of dollars for achieving numerous goals.
You're probably wondering why I'm writing to you? Well have you ever been so close to your dream but then have them snatched away? This is what is happening to me. I'm so close to going to the Pennsylvania academy of fine arts so close to furthering my dreams and education but one thing is stopping me. The seven thousand I need to go to college. It is so little compared to what I've made in scholarships but yet so large a sum to someone like me. Please help me make my dreams come true and allow me to be put me in the position to help others like me follow their dreams in the future. Help me prove to others that you can overcome obstacles and become successful no matter where you come from or what your circumstances.
