During the month of April, Amy received the shocking news that she has breast cancer at age 42. She was diagnosed with a cancer called Invasive Lobular carcinoma at stage 2b in one breast and possibly cancer in the other.
Amy has a family history of cancer. Both her father (age 59) and her grandmother (age 79) lost their battle to cancer. One of Amy's relatives had a rare breast cancer that is from a mutated gene called BRCA1 or BRCA2. Amy is now getting tested for this gene. They were told that their medical insurance will not cover this test. If this test comes back positive her chances of getting cancer again are higher than most cancer patients.
The Radiation Oncologist, the surgeon, and other doctors recommend that Amy have a mastectomy, followed by radiation with possible chemotherapy. The cancer has possibly spread to the lymph nodes and may need to be treated after the surgery.
Amy and her husband Anthony have spent much of their married life volunteering to help others. They have learned to speak Thai and have relocated to various parts of the country to help many Thai speaking people. To support themselves, they work together washing windows and detailing boats.
However, due to the frequent doctors visits and the upcoming major surgery their income has been affected and will continue to be as they live paycheck to paycheck. Amy will not have the strength or energy to work much due to the surgeries and treatments.
These funds will help towards their medical expenses as well as income lost due to her cancer treatments.
Thank you for all your support in helping our dear friend Amy.
