About Me: Hi, I'm Amy Lynn Herman. I live in Boulder, Colorado. You might know me from my work as an event professional with Maker Faire, Colorado Maker Hub, NewCo Boulder, Flux Factory, SheSays Boulder, Boulder POV and Colorado Coops Study Circle.

I’m committed to creating a better world by design through collaboration and civic engagement.
I’ve been pursuing this goal as a community organizer in West Africa, Indiana (go Indiana University!), NYC, Alaska, and across the state of Colorado for over 15 years.
The News: I've been selected to attend the XINSTITUTE - an incredible opportunity to learn from data professionals who have worked and taught at some of the most data-driven institutions in the world. XINSTITUTE is a project of Empowerment WORKS, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
It’s a great honor - only 20 people are chosen per retreat, so all participants receive personalized attention to successfully approach future business challenges and achieve professional excellence.
My Great Ask:
***I’m in immediate need of funding to support my travel expenses and a portion of my tuition. The total amount I'll need is $4000.**
The Details: I'm traveling to BALI, INDONESIA in January. Because it’s a surprise opportunity, I have limited funds to support my travel and tuition. The key component of this opportunity is that no previous programming or data science training is required. I’m asking for financial help to get there and a vote of confidence to go deep into my own power. I’m at the beginning of a shift in my career and ready to learn new skills to grow my leadership potential.
What I Will Learn: During this educational retreat, I’ll learn cutting edge techniques and tools from experienced data scientists and analysts to become a more influential, data-driven leader.
What I Will Do With this Opportunity: As a social leader, I’m excited to apply these tools to address issues of social equity: participation, representation, and access to the tools that support personal and community growth in social life. For the chance to attend this event, I will give back to the community that has helped me pursue this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to level up on my digital training. Upon my return from the retreat, I’ll host teaching & learning events to share what I experienced and create unique content to support the growth of others in their knowledge of data science.

My Give First Commitment: Any extra funds for this experience (after my tuition and travel) will be made as a community contribution to the Xinstitute to continue their social impact work. I will deliver these funds by December 31st, 2017.
The XINSTITUTE Promise: When I participate in this retreat, XINSTITUTE teaches 5 people who don’t have access to data education. They call it their 6 for 1 model. For this retreat, the beneficiaries are Syrian refugees through their partnership with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). They will launch that education program in Jordan in October 2017. There will be other beneficiaries for the January group. Please visit the XINSTITUTE website for more details.
