My name is Amy Daniels and I have been an advocate for public education for 20 years. In addition to the work I do for our school kids in grades 7-12 (23,000 kids in my valley!), I just finished seven years running the foundation for our district's flagship high school and working on different education councils and committees - and loved every minute of being able to give back. Before that I worked on behalf of the elementary school grades for over a decade.
My primary goal is to fund all of those things that are not paid for by tax dollars in the classroom - and that's a LOT. Technology to keep our young people up to date; graphic calculators so that they can learn and process in math class; new and interesting books in the library; high tech microscopes for next generation science class; whatever the class, our kids need the tools to learn. And those tools are expensive.
I live in Santa Clarita, California. If you look at pictures of our city, much of it will look new and pretty, but that belies the many pockets of lower income levels and the two income families struggling to make ends meet.
Our dedicated teachers do what they can but as a community, we want to invest in our young people and prepare them well for a bright future. As community members, we know that our home values are inextricably tied to great schools so maintaining and improving our public schools benefit us ALL, whether we have kids in the district or not.
I WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND SAY "YES" TO EVERY NEED IN OUR CLASSROOMS. I want every single kid to feel like they have everything at their disposable to help them succeed in school, no matter what their passion is.
Every time I visit a classroom that has benefitted from our funding there are kids that are thanking me - how the equipment I bought for that class through my foundation has made their learning experience that much better. The junior boy who told me he understands science so much better with his new, high tech microscope; the group of video kids who just got production equipment so they could finally produce and learn the craft they love; the special education administrator who told me that without this funding they couldn't make these kids feel proud of their every accomplishment; the computer science kids who thanked me because now they were learning on faster, more responsive computers...
THIS IS IT. RIGHT NOW IS THE TIME FOR ME TO MAKE THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE OF ALL AND I NEED YOUR HELP. I've enlisted the help of my backpacking team - the men I've been all over the world with for over three decades. We support one another both mentally and physically on our trips and they are joining me on this quest to make a difference.
We will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in September 2017 (we leave on the 9th, to be exact) to bring awareness to the needs of our public school kids. I want to galvanize people to understand the needs of public education. Please help me make a difference for the kids AND SUPPORT ME. If you - and all of your friends - give just a few dollars, it will allow us all to make a difference and PROVE THAT WE ALL CARE ENOUGH TO INVEST IN OUR FUTURE - OUR YOUNG PEOPLE.
I've raised three boys through public school so I know the story; I've seen where some extra money may have made a difference and I've tried my best, through my work, to give back. But I can't do it alone so I'm asking for your help. For our young people.

I will be posting blogs, pictures and stories and will be posting videos and pictures from the climb itself as we move along. Still, Kili is a dangerous mountain because of its 19,341' elevation. My team is dedicated to making a difference, but I need expedition funding to make all of this happen.
