Amy's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
YouCaring was bought by GoFundMe and transitioned on August 1, 2018. Instead of transferring user information to the new site, however, they requested that administrators copy the existing data into GoFundMe and save donor information to be retrieved through download.

Since there are those of us who do not read emails properly (Becky), we found out too late that the YouCaring site had been deleted, along with all donor data and inspirational notes. Everything just…gone. I will be sending personalized thank yous to all donors, and I believe we know most if not all of the names of those who so generously gave, but if you do not receive one PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me. It is truly not an intended slight, and I would love to have the information.

So we have to rebuild. Below is our initial, but probably slightly altered, post from February 8, 2018:

In December 2016, Amy fainted in a restaurant bathroom. She and her doctor reviewed the symptoms and she was sent home with a solution for perimenopause. In March 2017, the solution made the lymph nodes under both of her arms swell to the point that she could not lower them. However, after a new solution was introduced a few months later the swelling went away. An endometrial ablation was discussed and performed, and the lymph nodes under the left arm ballooned overnight. The doctor that performed the ablation did not visually inspect the abnormality but instead wrote a prescription for a mammogram.

In October, her mammogram came back negative with small spots that were thought to be cysts. Her family doctor again confirmed the cysts by touch. She was given a home remedy and told to call if they did not get better. This is unthinkable, as Amy has an immediate family history of breast cancer, her mother and aunt being diagnosed over 20 years earlier.

The pain did not abate and in November she asked for a sonogram. After the procedure she was asked to schedule a biopsy. Eight days after the biopsy (her doctor being on vacation), Amy drove to the facility and read her own pathology report. She had Stage IIIC breast cancer.

Amy’s first round of chemo was on February 1st and her three-hour scheduled appointment turned into five due to an allergy to the medication. There are operable tumors and inoperable tumors. So, her chemo is aggressive, and after chemo Amy will have surgery to remove the operable tumors. Her radiation will also need to be aggressive to kill the rest of the cancer in the inoperable tumors. Thankfully, her new doctors are being very thorough.

She will receive her genetic DNA test results for the BRCA gene on February 8th.  We pray for a negative result.

Due to this very aggressive approach to curing Amy, she is unable to work for the foreseeable future. We are asking for your assistance in covering expenses related to the loss of wages, anticipated medical costs not covered by insurance, and the proper nutrition she needs to fight her battle.

We also humbly ask you to continue praying for her - that the BRCA test comes back negative and that Amy is completely cured.  Amy has been comforted by the many people praying for her, sending Mass prayer cards, texts, etc...  With your support we are confident Amy will beat this terrible disease.

Thank You and God Bless!
