Amy Bailey's Recovery

Amy's story was written by her loving older sister, Linda. Please read about her journey and prayfully consider a donation. This is my younger sister, Amy Bailey, sitting in the backyard with our Dad.  Dad has advanced dementia and we have been trying to care for him at home for as long as possible.  Thanks to Amy, we were successful until August 2, 2018.  On that date, two weeks short of her 57th birthday, Amy suffered a major stroke.  As of today, she has no use of her right arm, only some feeling in her right leg, severe vision problems in her right eye, and is learning to  talk again.  She still has a lot of pain.  The doctors do not expect that she will be able to work again.    Compounding the devastating results of the stroke, we are now discovering that, in additional to the loss of income, her Obamacare HMO insurance coverage will not come close to covering the physical, occupational and speech therapy and eye specialist that she now needs, and will need for the next year. That is why I am appealing to all who are reading this.  Please help us by prayerfully considering a donation to support Amy.  She needs the medical care and extensive therapy to allow her to recover to the fullest extent possible.   Amy has shouldered a lot of adversity in her life.  She lost her oldest child in a tragic car accident when the child was only nine years old.  Amy quit college to care for her babies and support her husband as he pursued a career in law enforcement.   Then, in 2011, she went through a painful and unexpected divorce.  Once her children were grown, finally, for the first time in her life, Amy could focus on taking care of herself.   She could pursue her own dreams and answer to no one.  At age 50, she went back to college to obtain her teacher’s degree, which is not surprising, given her nurturing and engaging personality.  Amy was more than halfway through the undergraduate program when she answered my call to help me take care of Dad.  She put her college education on hold and moved to Texas.   For the next three years, Amy made Dad healthy meals, took him to the park, to nature movies, long walks with him, found little activities to exercise his brain, took him to doctor appointments and advocated for him, groomed him, and patiently answered Dad’s repetitive questions day after day.   Until August 2.   Now, she so desperately needs our help and I am asking all who are reading this to help us help her.  A donation in any amount will be so appreciated.  - Linda and all of Amy's loving family
