Amputee Mum Denied Government Help

In December last year after 9 surgeries during a 6 month battle with Charcot's foot, my mum had to make the decision to let go of her leg or let go of her life. The infection was growing too quickly and was unable to be contained; in the end her body began shutting down due to the number of antibiotics that she was on.

Currently, she is learning to walk again. She has started the moulding processing for her prosthetic and also been able to finally take it home to get the feel of it but her journey is so far from over. A prosthetic can be very painful and is subject to change through-out the day with swelling. It is not something that she should jump straight into full-time, however she as been left with no choice after having to return her wheel-chair in order to pay her rent - she's also had to sell her washing machine to stay afloat and right now is living completely off a credit card that she was so, so close to paying off because she simply does not have a choice. The government has offered no help... Apparently losing half of your leg doesn't fit the criteria for a "disability" so she hasn't had access to any sort of benefit or pension and is obviously unable to go back to her job as a nurse to make ends meet due to her mobility. On-top of this, her current apartment is up a long flight of stairs totalling to 18 in total which her prosthetic cannot handle, leaving her with no choice but to go up and down them on her backside; although manageable, this makes doing almost anything outside of her home nearly impossible (a word that isn't in her vocabulary). She physically isn't able to carry anything to or from the apartment. They also will not allow her any more access to her Superannuation due to already having used some of it for medical expenses. 

Basically, we need to get her into a comfortable home and considering she's already paying her rent with her credit card, there's no hope for that any time soon. With myself in Brisbane and her in Cairns there is only so much I could do and honestly I would sell everything I own for this women to feel human again... Even just for a day. I'm asking everyone to please, please help and donate even $1 if you can to get together enough money to move and hopefully a little more to buy her another wheel-chair. Everything will help and the more we share this (please, please share this) the more chance I have of being able to help my mum.

This is breaking my heart. She already has nothing, she is trying to live her previous life which unfortunately just isn't viable with her current situation and with already so much debt and the inability to work, I'm watching her fall behind quicker than I can do anything to help. She doesn't deserve this life, no-one does, but my mum in particular has done nothing but constantly give back and care not only for my sister and I but the community, her friends and the rest of our family. She has never once put herself first and still won't. It's not fair and I can't keep watching her life go down this road. For once I just want to see her get something back for every kind and generous thing she has done in her life because I honestly feel as though 40 years of giving has left her with nothing for herself.
