Aloha and mahalo for taking the time to learn more about my experience, strength and hope. I am a 32 year old passionate woman who is striving to live a life of joy, love and service. I have been extremely active from a young age and found my calling in teaching children, especially those with special needs. I have taught the past 11 years and am looking forward to getting back into the classroom in the future.
Throughout my journey, I have struggled with a serious addiction to alcohol. I found hope in recovery the past 8 years. The family I have found in recovery has shown me how to truly live and grow into the best version of myself. Unfortunately, this disease led me to my knees this past April when I developed Compartment Syndrome as a direct result of a relapse.
This tragedy has given me a renewed sense of hope for my future. I have progressed from a wheelchair to a walker to crutches to an I-Walk to a basic prosthetic. I am learning how to live all over again with this new reality. Unfortunately my insurance only covers a basic prosthetic that has a fixed ankle. It is to be used for light walking on even surfaces around the house. I have used this basic prosthetic to do extensive hikes jumping into waterfalls, however it has been at a cost to the rest of my body. I am in need of a prosthetic that will allow me to fully get back to life without damaging my body. I am fundraising for the cost of the prosthetic limb, prosthetic appointments and fittings.
I have a goal to run the December 2019 Honolulu marathon. I am setting up this page to help me receive a prosthetic that will allow me to keep moving onward and upward, inspiring the students in my classroom as well as the beautiful people around me to never give up. We are meant to thrive, not merely survive and I cannot thank you enough for being a part of my life journey.
