Amisha Hockridge's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Meet Amisha! She is a fun loving 10 year old who has already endured 9 surgeries.  The expenses keep adding up, and unfortunately, she's not finished with her surgeries yet.

I have known the Hockridge's for 7 years.  They have done everything in their power to get the right treatment for Amisha's condition, but need some help to finish the job.

Amisha was born with a rare medical condition called Microtia.  At birth, she only had one ear, and continues to be deaf on the other side. Microtia is a relatively rare condition, affecting only 1 out of 10,000 children.  Microtia can also be associated with problems with the jaw, kidneys and spine, and Amisha has issues with all 3.

One of Amisha's surgery was on her spine before she was 3.  Her kidneys have to be continually monitored because her right kidney is slowly failing.  Amisha’s jaw problem is called hemifacial microsomia. As you can see in the picture below (look at the cheekbones), the two sides of Amisha's face are growing at different rates, causing her teeth to no longer align.  This will require one (or possibly more) surgeries and braces which will cost at least $20,000.

Amisha when she is feeling well

Amisha’s family, who live in rural Saskatchewan, Canada, have been paying for her surgeries out of their own pockets as they had to go to the US to get it done, there were no options available to them in Canada. Building a new ear for Amisha cost $65,000 plus missed time from work and travel expenses.  Now Amisha's family must travel 500 kilometers (300 miles for you Americans) every week for treatment on Amisha's bowels as they do not work properly due to lingering nerve issues with her spinal cord.  These trips to Alberta are required because the special treatment and medication she needs cannot be obtained in her home province of Saskatchewan.  None of the substantial travel or lodging costs are covered by the Canadian government.

Amisha's family have sold everything they can to cover the costs, but recently Amisha’s mom has had to quit her job to stay home as Amisha is ill quite often and can't go to school. Amisha has a long road ahead of her and this family could use some help to relieve the financial stress as its taking a toll on them all.

The Hockridge's are not asking for all of their medical expenses to be covered, just looking for help with some expenses that insurance won't cover.  All donations will go towards Amisha's direct care. No donation is too small and it will greatly appreciated.

This campaign has been approved by Veena and Mike Hockridge.
