Amiel's Cancer Treatment

Amiel's story began last fall of 2016 when she was diagnosed with endometrial (uterine) cancer. She underwent a complete hysterectomy, 4 rounds of chemotherapy, and radiation. In February of 2017, she was cleared of cancer; the doctors said she was in remission. We were very grateful to have made it through that time, but Amiel still felt like she was not completely healed. This past summer she struggled with increasing abdominal pain and swelling. After doctors appointments and tests to determine what was going on, it was discovered that the cancer was back. She had an abdominal tap (paracentesis) done to remove the fluid which was causing the swelling in her abdomen. They found free-roaming cancer cells in the fluid and, after a PET/CT scan, discovered that the cancer was growing on her abdominal wall as well. We were told that this time the cancer was very aggressive and, with treatment, we may only be able to stall the cancer another 2-5 years. 

Amiel began chemotherapy on August 30th and, at this time, will be having a total of 6 treatments. The doctors are doing all they can to determine the best course of action. After chemotherapy, Amiel and Bill are hoping to travel down to Tijuana, Mexico early 2018 to pursue an alternative 3 week treatment there at the International Biocare Hospital. We are hoping to raise enough funds before then to fully cover this treatment and travel expenses. This treatment will be adjusted to her particular needs and will help her body to heal from chemotherapy and cancer, as well as boost her immune system. Because of the severity and aggressiveness of this cancer, we are doing everything we possibly can to get rid of it and extend her time remaining, while also improving her quality of life.
