Ameilia’s Warriors

Donation protected
Become a warrior today by joining Ameilia on her journey to conquering leukemia. A member of the Fort McKay First Nation, Ameilia Powder is a loving, courageous and strong 10-year-old little girl that is full of life. She’s a feisty hockey player, adored by her cousins, and the only child to parents Cory and Chasity.

On March 6, 2020, life took a turn for Ameilia and her family when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (also called acute myelogenous leukemia or AML). In children, AML is a cancer of the blood that starts in the bone marrow and spreads to the bloodstream. Immediately after her diagnosis, Ameilia began chemotherapy to stop the spread. In August 2020, after bravely enduring five months of treatments at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, she was able to return home. Although the cancer was gone, her family was informed that a bone marrow transplant would be the only option to save her life if the cancer returned. On January 19, 2021, this became an unfortunate reality and Ameilia is now embarking on the next stage of her journey. Eager to kick this thing in the butt, Ameilia is looking for strong warriors to help her and her parents conquer this cancer once and for all.

How to become one of Ameilia’s Warriors?

1. Make a donation here
Funds will help her parents, Cory and Chasity, ease their financial burden over the next six months as Ameilia undergoes several months of care in Edmonton and Calgary.

2. Join our stem cell (bone marrow) drive
Ameilia urgently requires a bone marrow transplant. Join the stem cell registry to see if you are a match for Ameilia’s bone marrow transplant. It’s convenient and easy, and everything can be done from the comfort of home. Order your testing kit today through Canadian Blood Services . Learn more about Ameilia’s donor drive and follow her page for the latest news at Ameilia's Warriors . *Only those ages 17 - 35 can register. All ethnicities are encouraged to register, however those of Indigenous decent may be more likely to match. If you, or someone you know is Indigenous and aged 17 - 35 PLEASE encourage them to register. Time is of the essence, YOU could save a life!

With your help, Ameilia can overcome the challenges she and her family face. She must now get her cancer cells under 5% to receive the bone marrow transplant. This means more rounds of chemotherapy treatment in Edmonton and continued prayers that a transplant match will be found. Once the match is found, she will go to Calgary for three months to receive the bone marrow transplant.

As another challenge, due to current COVID-19 restrictions only her parents can visit her in the hospital; meaning Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, cousins, and close family friends are unable to see Ameilia or support her parents during this time. Her hardworking father, Cory, has also taken seven months off work and now another six months, given that she will once again be five hours away for treatment and care in Edmonton for two to three months and an additional three months in Calgary for her bone marrow transplant.

No matter what life throws at us, daily living expenses don’t go away, and Ameilia’s family is in need. Join her in this battle, to find a stem cell match and to help her family alleviate the financial pressures they face as they support her through her care and treatments.

From Ameilia and her entire family, thank you for being one of her brave warriors. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, is making a difference.

As Cory and Chasity are providing much needed care and attention to Ameilia while she is in the hospital, donations received will be withdrawn by Ameilia's Grandmother Jaime Harpe, and transferred to the family. Donations will be used to cover travel costs while Ameilia undergoes treatments in Edmonton and Calgary.
