Hi everyone, my name is Tammi. My beautiful daughter has been through the journey of a lifetime in the last few years. When she was 18 years old, we decided to have gastric bypass surgery to help her lose weight. We had tried so many diets, and she was active in sports in high school, but we just couldn’t seem to get the weight off. By the time she was 18, she weighed 458 pounds. As a mother, I was scared for her. I was scared she would have a heart attack and die. I was scared she would become diabetic. So we agreed as a family to have weight loss surgery. The first few years, the weight fell off. On her 21st birthday, she was hospitalized for about 6 months because her body wasn’t absorbing any nutrients. She was put on a PICC line to feed her and get her healthy again. She lived in a nursing home for about 6 months because I lived about 1000 miles from her. She did everything the doctors told her. She was on the road to being healthy again. When she was 26, she was malnourished again. She has had a port that feeds her for the last year. She now has all the resources that she needs to stay healthy and live a normal life. I’m so proud of her. The port is removed, and she is ready to live as much of a normal life as she can.
Amber has gone from 458 pounds to 153 pounds throughout her journey. Her doctor has sent a referral for her to have skin removal surgery. She’s so excited. So here’s the thing. The insurance will only cut the loose skin from her belly; they cannot do any more than that. Her doctor said he can’t do the surgery for her as the insurance suggests. He doesn’t want to do that to her. So the only option is for us to pay out of pocket for this. Amber has worked so hard through this journey, and she deserves to feel good in her skin. I am asking if anyone can please help her out. Every penny will help her achieve her goals. As a mother, I just want happiness for my girl. She’s worked so hard, and she deserves to feel good about herself. If you can help, it would mean the world to us both.
We understand if you can’t help. But if you could please share, we would greatly appreciate it.
