Some of you know that 5 years ago I almost adopted from Uganda. God however, closed that door and it was quite a painful experience. I wasn’t sure if I would ever pursue adoption again even though it has been on my heart since high school. Well, after much healing and waiting, I have felt ready to travel that road again!
This time I am pursuing a newborn domestic adoption. I have chosen a Christian consulting agency that I am very excited to be working with. They will help me with the matching, fundraising tools, and general support throughout the process. My home study and initial paperwork have been completed, next is creating the profile book and then waiting for a match.
The total is going to be somewhere around $40,000-$45,000 and the breakdown looks roughly like this: (for you curious types!)
Home study: $2,000
Travel Expenses: $2,000
Consulting fee: $4,000
Legal Fees: $6,000
Birthmother care: $4,000
Agency fees: $25,000
With God’s abundant blessings, I’ve already been able to budget and save for the home study and consulting fees. Let me be honest for a moment. The financial requirements to do this is almost enough to keep me from it. It feels overwhelming and impossible to come up with such a large sum. I am someone who is used to managing what God gives me well enough that I can meet all of my needs and then some without having to ask others for help. So this is a faith stretch for me big time! I am choosing though to trust that God will provide the abundance of funds needed to complete this adoption. Especially since I can’t pursue a match until I have the funding secured. There is no way I can do it on my own. Will you be praying for me as God deepens my faith in this area?
I am planning a few fundraisers in the coming months to help offset some of the costs (if you have any suggestions I would LOVE to hear them!). And like I mentioned, my consulting agency will be guiding me toward grants and other tools as well. However, one of the ways I believe God wants to meet this need is through a network of people who choose to join in our story. A gift like this has a long term impact as an emotional investment and becomes so much more than just monetary. It is immeasurable! Would you ask God if you are supposed to be a part of our community?
