</div>Hi, my name is Amanda, and I am currently battling stage III colon cancer.
I have already undergone a rectal resection surgery, and for a time, I lived with a colostomy bag. Thankfully, I no longer have it. After surgery, I was advised to begin chemotherapy and radiation. However, due to delays and ongoing complications, I passed the recommended time window for those treatments. After working in oncology two decades ago and carefully researching my options, I do not believe chemotherapy and radiation are the best path for me personally because of the severe side effects and toxicity involved.
Recently, CT scans and MRIs also revealed something concerning in my liver, but I still do not have clear answers. The waiting, delays, and uncertainty have been incredibly frightening while I continue fighting for my life and advocating for the care I believe gives me the best chance.
I am hoping to pursue immunotherapy treatment at Oasis of Hope Hospital. Unfortunately, immunotherapy is extremely expensive in the United States and is not financially possible for my family right now.
I am not only fighting for myself — I am also a caregiver for my 8-year-old daughter, my husband who suffers from Crohn’s disease and short bowel disease after six surgeries, and my autistic granddaughter who lives with us. My family depends on me, and I want to keep fighting to be here for them.
