Amanda's Animal Bush Fire Fund - Bodalla

My incredible  mother has always been a protector of animals having become a vegetarian early on in life, so when she purchased a property on the south coast of NSW over 15 years ago, she wanted plenty of room for all, kids and animals alike. She started off with just a few calves that a local dairy didn’t want and over time that number has grown to include their descendants, rescued horses, chickens, a rooster with no time awareness and a multitude of native animals.

In the horror of the  fires on the 31st December 2019 my family woke with the realisation they had to abandon the farm. Opening gates and setting the animals free with the hopes they would survive. Once the danger was over, they returned to find that although  my mother had lost her home, storage sheds, tractor, and all available water and feed gone– miraculously and to her greatest relief the animals survived.

Due to the fires, all resources in the area have been stripped and prices will rise once any are available to the public (Farmers and primary producers will have priority). Because my mother does not make a living from these animals, and none would ever be sold! there will be no insurance payout or grants and she will have to wait for the insurance payout for the house which will take some time.

When she left my mother took a bag of clothes, photos, some tools and a few bales of hay and feed which has already gone and been fed to the animals. My greatest fear for her is that after having lost her home, she may now lose her beloved animals. The paddocks are burnt, and the fences obliterated.

My family and I cannot let this final heartbreak occur to our mother.

The phone calls and messages everyone in our family has received supporting us, the family and the animals over this difficult period have been overwhelming. It warms our hearts to see so many people willing to assist where possible, prompting this GoFundMe.

Many Australians are going through this same trauma, having lost their homes to the fires, but we ask that if you have anything spare to donate towards sustaining these animals - it would be very much appreciated.

At the moment due to shortages of water, hay and fodder we are rationing the animals to 2 small bales, twice a day at a current pre apocolyptic fire cost of just over $90 a day and this is expected to rise.

We are also bottle feeding two beautiful orphan calves. Our wish is to be able to feed them bales up until we get decent rain and the grass returns, this may be weeks or months.

With prayers, well wishes, and thanks from the Family and animals, Tungi and Hari Sauri the bullocks, Tulsi and Navina the cows, Syamali and Cintamini (the calves), Vamsi and Bhumi our orphan calves and the horses Rusty, Destiny, Melaleuca and Dusty the pony.
