Amanda Gammich’s Cancer Fund

Hi Everyone...here is the latest update on my health. I honestly thought I was doing well...yoga, relaxing, healthy eating. But my November MRI showed regrowth. I didn't even get to meet with my trusty neurosurgeon Dr Q and was immediately set up to see a radiologist and chemotherapist.
Wait...what?
I have to see who?
All of a sudden I'm a patient again and I don't want to be. Mike and I were planning a vacation for February to see the Northern Lights but I guess now my plans have changed...
I met with the doctor at Mayo with my mom for support. Chemo and radiation recommended immediately in 2018.
Wait...what? Is this really the recommendation? How silly of me to think I had more time before this happened.
I want to state here for the record that I am not willing to take chemo for brain cancer at this point. Only 25% is able to cross the Blood Brain Barrier and the rest will just make me horribly ill with zero immune system. I will not poison my body. We all have to make our own decisions about our health care and I know many people will disagree with my choice...I simply ask for your respect and support in my healthcare decisions while I fight my brain cancer the way that is right for me.
Instead if chemo, I plan to take the REAL DEAL Rick Simpson oil therapy. 60 grams of oil ingested in 60-90 days. I meant to do this earlier in the year but never did. So now I'm already started and hope to get my tolerance up to take 1 gram/day by 1/1/18 and finish up by the end of February. The only issue with this therapy is that it is not covered by insurance. Cash only. And the State of FL charges almost 3 TIMES the amount compared to other legal states. I'll pay $5,600 cash to pay for this treatment.
Next is radiation. Wow it's expensive...really expensive, I had no idea. $220,715 without insurance. The good news is I have choices in my health insurance through healthcare.gov, Medicare, or Medicaid. After many calls I I can get my treatments through my own healthcare for my max out of pocket cost just under $5k.
The details: for 6.5 weeks, Monday-Friday, I will receive 30 minutes of radiation treatment, at a facility that is not local. By the end, I will have had the maximum amount of radiation a human can have. Extreme fatigue is a big side effect and I'll have friends & family to help me during treatments with driving and meals. Another long term side effect could be cataracts in 2-3 years and of course, cognitive deficits such as memory loss, shorter attention span, etc.
It's a lot handle emotionally and financially. This will be my last week of teaching yoga classes for a few months. I am now vegan, juicing veggies, drinking alkaline water, doing activated charcoal, among other things. I'm trying to heal myself from the inside out. In brain cancer there is no known cause and there is no cure, so for now I fight with nutrition and can na bis...it's funny to me that those options are considered "alternative." Wish the best for me in this process and I'll keep you posted as I move into the new year. Much love to you all.
