On July the 4th after spending a weekend visiting with family in Kingston, ON, my mother, her husband, my aunt, her sister and her sister's husband were driving on I-81 Southbound a little past Syracuse, NY, when a small freight box truck driver fell sleep while he was driving on I-81 North boutn, crossing the barrier/guardrail and plumetting into oncoming traffic.
My mother was traveling in a van driven by our aunt, she was sitting in the front passenger seat when the accident happened, her husband was sitting directly behind her. As the freight box truck came crashing into them, the van was crushed with my mother within it.

By the grace of GOD and guardian angels my mother is here with us. The rest of the passengers suffered injuries as well, but my mother was in critical condition and rushed to the ICU of a Syracuse, NY hospital.
After 3 days of being in the ICU, emergency surgeries, and an immeasaruble amount of pain, I am happy to say that my mother has been transferred to a hospital in the Philadelphia area, where she will have to continue the long road to recovery.
She is expected to be out of work for an extended and indefinate amount of time. She requires at least 2 additional surgeries to reconstruct her forearm and to fix her ankle, and her other hand is going to require months of rehab.
Her husband is also expected to be out of work for an extended period of time as he also suffered a broken wrist, and other body injuries, luckily not as extensive as my mother's but also life altering.
We are not sure that she will ever be the same, but we are here to help her get through this. As part of her healing, we would like to request friends and family to donate any amount they can. Although we are working hard to make sure she is provided for, the looming burden of medical bills, rehabiliation facilities bills, living expenses, just to name a few, are weighing heavily in our minds. Transporting her from the hospital in Syracuse, NY to the hospital in Philadelphia, PA (where she will undergo several surgeries) cost $4600 and was not covered by insurance. The stay in the hotel in Syracuse for the week she was there cost $1000 (not counting food etc).
The money raised during this campaign will be used to set up an account that will cover any expenses not covered by insurance, and her and her husband's living expenses, as they both will be out of work for a long, long, long time.
