On Thanksgiving Day 2014 my children’s and I’s lives were changed forever. My then husband went on a violent rampage against my children and I.  This followed with days of drug use. Out of fear for the lives of myself and my children I moved out. I sold all our furniture and anything of value in our home. Only $375 was raised. I took that money and on December 7th, 2014 my children and I checked in at The Comitis Crisis center night shelter in Aurora, with only the clothes on our back and on our feet.  At 7AM we were told to leave the shelter. We spent the day on the streets.  Too many families were at the crisis center that night so we slept on a golf course that night.  My daughter asked me “How are we going to be okay if we are homeless?”.  Words I never imagined to hear in my life.

We eventually went to the Brandon Center but because of my husband’s harassment I lived daily in fear. Eventually I did receive a restraining order and filed for divorce. Eventually the Brandon Center closed too...we are back on the streets. The nights are freezing and I fear for my family. After filing taxes I bought a minivan through Andy’s Carland http://andyscarland.com/.  They have have been a shining light in all of this as my credit took a hit from leaving my abusive household and Andy still financed me. Through the Brandon Center’s help we spent weeks at hotels you wouldn’t dare ever pay to stay in. I finally got a 2 bedroom through assisted housing but it would be limited and eventually we were back on the streets . At the same time, Stride http://www.stride-co.org/. approved me for a 3 bedroom apartment.  That was back in May...I am still in on the streets today. I work hard every day trying to make the most money I can and yet we are still sleeping in our van. A mentor of mon son referred me the aid of a licensed real estate broker, Kelli Hernandez ([email redacted]).  Every place she found was adverse to working with Stride.  And there were few places to choose from.

I would love to be a homeowner and would like to get off food stamps and Medicaid. I want to be in a position to take care of myself and my children completely. My children and I are asking for so much in funding because we would like to purchase a home affordably and be able to furnish it. I would like to start college funds for all my children.

As the rental market continues to rise more and more families like mine are forced into homelessness. I have to ask myself if there even is fair and equal housing for the homeless.  I would like to start my own non-profit that would help the already self-sufficient homeless families by opening up a shelter that would never close its doors and always cater to the health and well being of it’s residents. I want to be a voice in the city, a heart in the community and a mind for the State Colorado.  We want to be a major success story and change the future for all those that are homeless.

Thank you for reading and for donating.  Bless you all.
