Handicap Mobility Equipment

I have always been an exremely active person. I was a triathlete, a busy Mom and Grandma. On a seemingly uneventful evening I turned down the wrong hallway in the dark at my home and fell down an extremely steep staircase that led to the basement. At this moment in time my life was changed forever. I fractured my skull, several facial bones, four vertebrae,left wrist, three ribs and a punctured lung. My spinal cord was damaged at T-6 (which is right above the mid back) and I became paralyzed from there down. After several set backs I am trying to gain a little bit of independence. In order to do this I am in dire need of handicap equipment that will allow me to move forward. The most important is the appropriate wheel chair for my injury. The present wheelchair that I have has done more harm due to the sturcture of the chair and the nature of my injury. My insurance refuses to cover the correct chair. I also am in need of a roll in shower chair. This would enable me to take a shower independently. My last request is a hand pedaled bicycle. Always being an athlete before my injury, to once again become physically active would not only improve my health but give me back the peace of mind that exercise can provide.
