Hello! Welcome to my GoFundMe page for my trip to Rwanda in November 2017! Thanks for visiting!
I've accepted an invitation to travel to Rwanda with the University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine (UF CAM) AIM for Africa program.
UF CAM has been using the arts to help improve the quality of life for people in Rwanda since 2007. Their AIM for Africa initiatives in Western Rwanda use the arts to enhance health literacy, access to healthcare, community engagement, vocational skills, and general health and well-being in communities of genocide survivors and indigenous Twa people.
In Rwanda, as in other East African counties, the Batwa (also called Twa) suffer severe discrimination, poverty, poor health, and lack of opportunity. “Batwa” translates to mean “those that history left behind”. They are generally known as "the invisible people".
I will be one of two visual artists, collaborating with four dancers and Jill Sonke, the Director of UF CAM. We will be in Rwanda for two full weeks, working with and supporting the Twa community through arts initiatives.
This is a SELF FUNDED trip! I need to raise $2500 as soon as possible to pay for travel, immunizations, food, and transportation.
ANY amount will help! Just $15 will afford me a whole day's worth of food and lodging while in Rwanda.
