Adopting Jax
Donation protected
We got a call May 6th from our lawyer in Florida who we adopted our daughter Lily through. (When we were in the hospital with Lily I said to the lawyer, "do you ever get African American boys under 2 that are adoptable?" He said, "almost never.") He explained he had a 15 month old African American boy who had no one. The child was suppose to be adopted by another family. The birth mom had signed over rights only one week earlier but the family changed their minds because they did not feel that the child was doing well in their home. He called us and asked if we wanted him because the birth mother had disappeared. We jumped on a plane to meet Jax. We got him on Mothers Day. We had no idea the whirlwind we were about to experience. We thought the fees would be around $10,000.00 until everything that could go wrong, did. Jax was extremely ill when we got him, we paid out of pocket for doctor bills, the paperwork was a mess, my husband and I got really sick, Noah got a rare virus, I got bronchitis and fractured a rib coughing, our car got broken into, our vehicle and roof were totaled by hail, and then our social worker had two massive heart attacks, making her unable to finish our paperwork in Colorado. Expenses continued to rise as we had to hire our lawyer to do more work because our social worker was in the hospital. The total adoption cost is now over $17,000. We did some fund raising this weekend but are still short $4,000. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, support and love through this. Jax is doing great! He fits into our family as though he has always been with us. Although we felt overwhelmed at times dealing with so much in just 6 weeks, we always felt so thankful to God that He gave us another son. We named him Jaxon Nicholas. Jaxon means "God is gracious" and Nicholas means "victory." Today we went to court and Jax is offically staying with us!!!
