Alvarado Hurricane Harvey Fund

Donation protected
Victoria, Felix, Byron (19), and Melissa (10) Alvarado's home flooded in Hurricane Harvey on September 27, when water was released into their neighborhood from the Addicks Reservoir to prevent an uncontrolled overflow of the dam.  The Alvarados escaped their house in Felix's truck, leaving behind Victoria's and Byron's cars, which were overtaken by the flood waters.  The family only had time and space to take two pairs of clothing each.  Because their home was not in a flood plain, the Alvarados did not have flood insurance.  The Alvarados have been told it will take 2-3 weeks for the flood waters to subside enough for them to get into their home and see if anything is salvagable.

The Alvarados are currently staying with Victoria's cousin, packing 9 people into a 2 bedroom apartment.  In good traffic, the apartment is over a 30-minute drive away from the homes that Victoria cleans for a living.  Felix has to drive his car to work in the dairy department at Walmart, and there is no public transportation connecting Victoria to the homes she cleans, so Victoria has been unable to do her work.  Byron works at a nearby Starbucks, but is unable to work until he can obtain closed-toe shoes and the rest of his uniform.  Byron also takes classes at University of Houston, where he is studying biochemistry in preparation for applying to medical school.  Byron cannot get from the apartment to class with public transportation.

Victoria and Felix came to our country from Guatemala and have been working hard on their American dream.  Felix has a green card and Victoria is proud to have obtained American citizenship 4 years ago.  Victoria and Felix are also very proud of their children for their kind natures and hard work in school.  Both children want to be doctors.

The Alvarado family would be grateful for any assistance you can give them to help them get back on their feet.  The money will go directly from GoFundMe to the Alvarado family.  The Alvarados intend to use the money to arrange for transportation and longer-term housing, and to buy food, clothes, toiletries, a work uniform for Byron, and other necessities.

Organizer's note:  Victoria has cleaned my  home for more than 7 years.  She is honest, caring, and hard working.  She has been much more than a housekeeper to my family; she organizes our home and makes our lives less stressful.  She has helped us cope with three new jobs, moving three times, and becoming parents.  David and I would greatly appreciate any help you can give her and her family.
