Hurricane Florence moved very slowly after making landfall and for many of us, she was gone in a couple of days.
Unfortunately, for so many in our community, her landfall was just the beginning. Many families and communities in North and South Carolina agonized over news updates in recent weeks as they tried to determine whether the rising waters would affect their homes . Many families worst fears were confirmed as they helplessly watched their homes fill with water. My sister Kristin, her husband Bobby, and their two young girls Zoey and Lennox are among those families. Their home is located in Myrtle Beach, SC in the Socastee community which was particularly hard hit when the ICW crested last week.
This is is the second time their family has had to evacuate their home due to flooding. The second time they’ve had to figure out how to start over.
Restoring their home to a livable state is going to be a massive undertaking. Without flood insurance, it is one that I’m sure can seem out of reach. I’ve started this fundraiser in hopes the community will help relieve the financial stress that comes along with this disaster, so that they can focus on loving each other through this and hopefully return to some sort of normal in the not too distant future. Any and all funds raised will help them mitigate the damage incurred and to purchase the necessary materials needed to put their home back together such as flooring, drywall, insulation, pay for labor and so forth.
