Althea Cooper’s Road to Recovery

On the morning of May 1, 2021, Althea felt light-headed and extra-fatigued with tingling sensations on the right side of her head and body. Since these symptoms were not symptomatic of her rheumatoid arthritis, it was cause for alarm. Althea was rushed to Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center South ER by her husband, Joseph Cooper, Jr. She was later transported by helicopter to Wellstar North Fulton Hospital which specializes in delivering endovascular therapy for stroke patients.
Prognosis: Althea experienced a stroke caused by a brain bleed on the left side of her brain. She has paralysis on her right side but thankfully retained the full ability to talk. Prior to the stroke, Althea’s mobility was deteriorating from a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis. This recent stroke has exacerbated her condition.
The next step towards recovery is intensive physical therapy, but it is very expensive.
How You Can Help: Althea needs your help in several ways, but the most immediately need is funding for intense physical therapy, including a 15-day stay in a rehab center. Currently, Althea is not insured but vigorously working on becoming insured within the next few weeks. If insured, her level of therapy will more than likely require a hefty co-pay. She needs to start physical therapy immediately, but the funding is not available. Stroke recovery therapy is time sensitive, expensive, and must begin once Althea is released for physical therapy (possible scheduled release – Wednesday, May 19, 2021).
