What is the Alternative Library? The <a href="http://altlib.org/">Alternative Library</a>  has been an open, accessible community resource in Bellingham for the last 12 years. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit cooperative lending library and community arts center, offering a member-curated collection of more than 9000 books, specializing in independent media, art books, and alternative cultures. Additionally, we operate as a modular community event space, which plays host to hundreds of all-ages events annually, featuring many things which may not otherwise have a space in our small town. Why we're asking for donations: After receiving sudden and unexpected notice from our landlord that we must vacate the historic church -- our home for the last 3 years -- by the December 20th, we are in urgent need of finding a new home! To ensure the Alternative Library is housed and able to continue fostering diverse perspectives and connections, we now ask for support from our community -- from you!  What we'll do with the money: As a small volunteer-run non-profit that works tirelessly to provide the most for our community, we need the support of our entire community to take us to the next level! Thus, we're asking our supporters and community members for donations to help us afford: 1. The cost of relocating to a new space 2. Expanding our offering to develop a community print/publication studio 3. Investing in sustaining pay for some of our essential staff By participating in our fundraiser, you'll be helping us find a stable home, enabling us to spend our time and energy building a stable community space that cultivates creativity, connection and collaboration.
