Alsama's Art Project: Art, Humanity & Bioethics

It all started when I met the Alsama project after seeing a report on Sky News. It was love at first sight, and after a few meetings, the concept of an art initiative was born. It was driven by the importance of finding happiness and the human tenacity to find good in times of hardship and to create awareness of what dehumanises us. Inspired by the principle of subsidiarity and Skinner’s importance of a positive environment on behaviour, this initiative will catalyse the universal language of art for hope and towards spreading the word of peace. Alsama’s extraordinary mission is to change the lives of refugee children in Lebanon through education as a real catalyst for positive social impact and change.

Renata S Beman (PhD).

Our art project has three phases. During phase 1 (which started on January 23rd), Mrs Boshra Yassin (Art Alsama) and I started a series of online classes based on 10 themes; these classes will be the foundation for the exhibition’s development. During phase 2, I will support the students' creation of 10 unique art pieces in Lebanon. Phase 3 is showtime and exhibition. So far, we have 100 students participating.

We are grateful for the invitation of Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum University, Faculty of Bioethics – Prof Alberto García Gómez and Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights, to be our first exhibition location; we hope it will be a fantastic kickstart to many more invitations. We don’t have words to express our gratitude towards the Uffizi Museum Firenze (Gallerie degli Uffizi) for welcoming us to record our message in the famous Sala di Sandro Botticelli, that gives us and our children hope and reassurance of the importance of charity and the importance of the universal language of art.

So, let's make it happen...
