almost 70 with 2 girls in college
6 months ago, To avoid stepping on the cat on the stairs ,i steped over the cat and my left foot hit the edge of the step and slid down 5 steps ( i did a split at 69 years old with a right side hip replacement and 2 spinal fusions,) i destroyed my left hip and all that holds it in place . the next day i could hardly move but worked at the bar anyway . when i saw the Dr. he said i needed a new left hip, but said try steroid injections first. the steroids worked for a month but the pain came back more intense, it was bone on bone . Time for total left hip replacement . I have some insurance , but copays , and the cost of living , rent, food, heat , insurance, car payments ,College cost for 2 girls ,etc. add up quickly. I have never asked for help other than friends to move or build something . the surgery is Oct. 19 2018, and will be 3 or 4 months recovery or more because of all my other surgeries . Many people think if i live in Greenwich , Ct. that we are all wealthy . the truth is more than 60% are working class people . my wife works and both my girls have side jobs while at college, and it is still not enough to cover all our outstanding bills that will soon be arriving . with me out of work living anywhere will be difficult . i have worked since i was 12 years old , but losing 13 years (1998-2011) of work ( 13 years of SS also) and trying to make ends meet will be the most difficult . I hope that the kindness of those who have never had major injuries will understand . I pray for a helping hands !Thank you for listening , God be with you !
