Almeda Fire Home Repair and Weatherizing

Two months have passed since the Almeda fire ripped through the beautiful Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon, displacing over 6,000 people and turning nearly 3,000 homes into ash and rubble.
As each day passes we are learning more about the critical needs of our impacted community members. An immediate concern that has come to the forefront are the 500+ partially damaged homes still being occupied around the perimeter of the fire’s reach. With a chilling winter upon us, these homes are in dire need of containment, weatherization, and protection from the ash right outside their front door that is extremely toxic to human health.
We are addressing the most desperate of our community - the elderly, the uninsured, and those laid off from work due to Covid-19 - many of which are months behind on rent and do not have the option to leave their homes.
Our industrious community has marched forward with skill and fervor to help those in need. What we need from you are the resources to purchase materials to perform the required repairs that will get these people through the winter and protect them while we recover from this devastating fire.
YOUR DONATION WILL BE USED FOR
Weatherization needs: insulation, double pane windows, mobile home siding, mobile home skirting, sealants, weather stripping for doors and windows, blinds for windows and other essential items to ensure that the home will be warm for the upcoming cold days.
Air purification needs: air purifiers that filter particulates smaller than 2.5 ppm and have a carbon filter. They are a higher priced item but can be used for years to come, and ideal for a family who lives in a single-wide mobile home, which normally runs under 1,000 sq. ft.. These items can also be purchased and delivered to our headquarters to be donated to fire victims:

- Coway AP-1512HH-FP AP-l S12HH Replacement filter
- Coway Airmega 400 in Graphite/Silver Smart Air Purifier with 1,560 sq. ft Coverage
Heating needs: Homes with central heating and air conditioning will need to be sealed off to keep toxic ash out, and will need electric heaters for warming their homes. This can range in cost depending on the size of the heater and how many rooms each home has that need to be heated.

ABOUT CASCADE BUILDERS ASSOCIATION
Cascade Builders Association, headed by John Palombo and Wrenna Keller, is a collective of builders and crafts-people throughout Southern Oregon who collaborate and participate in skill sharing, tool swapping, and labor pooling.
CBA is currently working to galvanize worker and builder volunteers that have stepped up to respond to the Almeda Fire recovery efforts.
The long term mission of the Cascade Builders Association is to fuel and strengthen the culture of skilled artisans by creating a network in which the skills of the adept generations of makers can be handed down to youth and the aspiring apprentice.
