"What love can do" is such a deeply felt sentiment around Alma Midwifery. All the midwives here are drawn to midwifery with a deep love for this most ancient craft. Again and again we watch women birth their babies with great love.Now we are asking the question to the broader world, What can love do?
For the first time since opening we are asking for some financial help. We are shy about our first fundraiser, but we wouldn't ask if the need wasn't pressing. Let us know if you wish to donate in your child(ren's) name(s) or if you wish to remain anonymous. It is true that any amount is helpful.
In the last few years insurance companies have done some dining and dashing. The midwives provide excellent care, Alma pays for all the expenses (the costs are many), Alma pays the midwives and then we wait...as the insurance companies languish. We wait up to a year for some claims to clear. They squirm away, play tricks and try to bargain.
Right now we are in that waiting place. We are owed around $ 200,000.00+ for all the services provided and yet the money only trickles in! This is scary! Of course the bills do not trickle in.
Talking about our financial needs is not fun, our deepest joy has been in serving several thousand families through their pregnancies, births and postpartums. Because families love their babies so much, an overflow of love splashes on the midwives (along with various other fluids). Nearly thirteen years ago we first opened our doors and hearts to you all. Thank you for trusting us with your most precious of life's many events, and again, we ask, "what can love do"?
Please pass this far and wide! Please send to Grandparents, Friends, Aunties and anyone that you know who would like an opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of mothers, babies and families.
