All.u.re and Valour Online Lessons

Donation protected
Hi there, help us encourage wellbeing among young Australian teens. I’m launching this page to:

a) send teachers free COVID Care Packs www.rediscoverallure.org/teacher-covid-care-pack
b) to raise funds for the development of online wellbeing lessons for boys

SEND FREE TEACHER COVID CARE PACKS

Consider making a donation to back our efforts in sending teachers something positive in this stressful and draining time. They are under the pump in so many ways, facing challenges in multiple directions and could use a big pick me up. The covid care packs are worth $100+ and we want to send as many as we can, especially in regions under lockdown anywhere in Australia.

Click here to see what's currently included (and the list is growing) in the care packs: www.rediscoverallure.org/teacher-covid-care-pack

If you make a donation and want to have a teacher you know sent a care pack, either put their name and school in your donation comment, or otherwise, fill in the contact form on our website: www.rediscoverallure.org

START DEVELOPMENT OF ONLINE LESSONS FOR BOYS

In 2021, I launched All.u.re Online lessons for girls: www.rediscoverallure.org/online-lessons

There are 6 core module topics which lead teen girls through topics such as self-worth, friendship and social media.

Here's some sample video content: www.rediscoverallure.org/videos

The development of All.u.re is already in full swing and has been a huge investment to get off the ground. HOWEVER, we have received requests from co-ed and all- boys schools asking us when Valour Online is ready. We weren't expecting to do Valour until next year. If it wasn't for parts of Australia going into/back into lockdown, we probably would've just waited. But it looks like covid and associated restrictions will be on and off for the remainder of this year so the need for online learning options, especially in the self-esteem space, is urgent.

With the support of my brother (who is embarking upon a Masters degree in Psychology), we have plans to launch Valour Online for boys (www.avlearninghub.org). However, we don’t have the funds to start the program this year.

To begin Valour (this year), we'd need at least:

1. $5,000: for Module 1 & 2 (Valour Bronze) to begin development (videography, voice recording, module curriculum development)

2. $5,000: for the production of the equivalent Teacher Handbook folders (as seen in the photos for All.u.re)

Here is a sample video of the type of content for Valour: https://www.avlearninghub.org (scroll to bottom left corner video titled 'Men of Valour').

BACKGROUND & THE MENTAL HEALTH OF YOUNG PEOPLE.

There’s no doubt covid and associated consequences have wreaked havoc across the globe but consider this: the mental health toll it has taken on people must be taken just as seriously as the physical toll. When it comes to teenagers and them attempting to have some semblance of a healthy sense of self, they really have drawn the short straw. They were already born and raised in a socio-tech world with 24/7 Social Media.

Now they have a global pandemic to contend with. More restrictions, more lockdowns, means more isolation for teenagers, more time alone in their bedrooms. More time to engage in negative online behaviours, more time to compare and feel not adequate. Rather than being able to engage in healthy activities to clear their mind or let out pent up energy, they remain cooped up, left to ruminate in their own inner world, which sometimes turns into quite a dark place.

Kids Helpline recently reported that the attempted suicide rates among Victorian teenagers have risen by 184 per cent in past six months.

"A disturbing pattern of behaviour is emerging in Victorian teens amid the pandemic, sparking concerns of a mental health crisis: “Where schools and other community connections may have previously played a role supporting young people at risk of abuse, the extended lockdowns and home schooling may have led to an increase in young people seeking support from us.”

***

If we can get started on Valour Online sooner than later, this means we can reach many more young people with our program, which includes co-ed schools and boy schools.

When it comes to creating something from the ground up, such as our online lessons, there’s never enough time, never enough money, there’s always something that in hindsight that could’ve made the whole process better. But this is a start. This is something. This is worth working days and late nights to try and bring young people lessons filled with uplifting messages, encouraging them in their journey of self-worth. We don't claim to be the solver of all the world's problems and youth mental health is certainly complex. But I believe our program is a necessary piece of the puzzle.

At the end of the day, if the life of one single teenager, facing weeks or months of isolation, who is feeling depressed and on the verge of giving up, is positively impacted by our program, it is ALL worth it.
