Allentown Needs A Book Shop

It is hard to believe that our beautiful, vibrant, diverse, and rising city, does not have an independent book shop. This has to end and I want to help make that happen.

Bestselling author, Neil Gaiman once said “What I say is, a town isn’t a town without a bookstore. It may call itself a town, but unless it’s got a bookstore, it knows it’s not foolin’ a soul.”  I say Allentown is a town and deserves, no demands an independent book shop.

After 15-years of managing a book shop in Clinton, New Jersey, I want to bring it home and open a book shop that will nurture the culture of literacy, bring amazing author events, and contribute to the social fabric of my home town.  I need help to make this dream come true and that is where you come in.

I already know the location (downtown near the Arts Walk), and I have studied the demographics with full confidence that Allentown has what it takes to host a book shop. I have the experience to make it work, the contacts to compliment all a book shop needs to thrive, and I know books like few others.

Funds raised will assist in getting it all together, from stocking the space, to the point of sale system, to the creation of a sign and down to the welcome mat. I want this to be a totally community funded endeavor. Those who pitch-in will be more than just customers, they will be investors and will benefit as such.

My goal is to make this happen no later than mid-September, 2018 and I know we can do this.

Think about it. Emmaus has am amazing independent book shop, as does Easton. Moravian book shop, once the pride of Main Street in Bethlehem is no longer our own, it will soon belong to Barnes & Nobel. Keep your hard earned money where your house is help bring the dream of a book shop to Allentown.
