Allen’s cremation & expenses

Donation protected
my dad was infinitely cooler than I could ever dream of being. he lived so many vastly different lives, each equally fascinating. I wish I had asked him more about them but I’ll always be grateful for the good years and the stories he told & was a part of.

I’m an only child and my parents were on a fixed income with no life insurance or savings— this is to help offset the cremation cost, any paperwork, and help my mom with bills as she adjusts and figures out what’s next.

Obituary:

Norbert Allen Payne, known as Allen to his friends, family, and co-workers, passed away at 82 years old on October 26th, 2021 after a long battle with illness.

He was born December 16, 1938 to Lois Jobe-Stauffer and Norbert Whitney Payne in Los Angeles, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sister Barbara, and his half-sister Norberta. Allen entered the Navy in January 1956 and served for six years on the LST Iron County 840 and the USS Tawakoni 114. He was always happy to be a Veteran.

Allen lived 30 years in Santa Monica, California before retiring to Saint George, Utah. He was a proud and active member of IATSE Local 706, always supporting his fellow union members. He worked in the motion picture business for four decades as a Hairstylist and he always cherished the lifelong friendships he made through work. He was the Hair Department Head on both Knight Rider and Baywatch. He particularly loved his time on Baywatch, working on the beach every day and popularizing the casual beach look. He worked on all-time classics like Back to the Future 2, Beethoven, Raging Bull, and Troop: Beverly Hills. He worked with David Hasselhoff until his retirement in 2007.

He was a natural born entertainer and always had a joke ready for any situation. He was a talented musician and never was afraid to be the center of attention. He would watch Jeopardy! with his daughter as often as possible and always stun everyone with his breadth of knowledge. He loved watching football and horse racing, and always wanted to share his love of those. Allen was incredibly proud of his daughter for being the first in their family to attend college and be became a University of Michigan fan without hesitation late in his life. His support and humor will be missed.
