Options High School is going into uncharted territory! We want to encourage our students to look beyond their own immediate needs and to practice giving back to the community. As such we are raising funds for Generations Foundation (generationsfoundation.com) which provides nutritious meals to children all over the Montreal area that would typically arrive at school hungry. Generations Foundation supports the Alternative School Network, and as such it is a perfect opportunity to give back.
Come Support us during our visiting hours on October 17th from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m at 1741 Rue de Biencourt, Montreal, Qc, H4E 1T4. We need you to cheer us on and encourage us to keep on rowing! This will not be an easy task and your support would mean a great deal in helping us achieve our goal of rowing non-stop for 24 hrs and supporting Generations Foundation.
We are going to take on an incredible challenge. Students and staff will be split into teams of 8 and will commit to rowing non-stop for a 24hour period. From 12:00 p.m. October 17th to 12:00 p.m. October 18th the teams will start out with a suggested strategy of 22 minutes of rowing followed by a 2 hour and 38 minute break. They will repeat this 8 times and will successfully row for 24hours straight. Muscle fatigue, lack of sleep, discomfort, and one fixed goal of not letting the rowing machine rest will be our friends for 24 hours.
There are several goals and outcomes that will be achieved as a result of the row. First a foundation of community will be built by relying on one another to finish the event. The bridge between student and teacher will become much closer as we sweat and struggle together in one focused effort, which should lead to greater respect and greater engagement in the classroom. Resilience and the confidence to overcome the unknown is also a chief objective, and we are sure the students who participate will be proud and likely looking for the next challenge and opportunity to give back once we have crossed the finish line.
