Ali's Nursing Tuition Fund

Donation protected
Hello everyone!

As many of you know I was accepted to my first choice nursing school at Samuel Merritt University and will be starting their accelerated nursing program this June. The program is extremely fast paced in just one year (May 2015) I will be graduating with a Bachelors of Science in nursing! I couldn't be more excited!

Unfortunately, I am having a lot of trouble raising funds for my tuition since I will be working towards obtaining a second Bachelors degree. I have been told that due to the fact I already have a Bachelors degree and this program it is not considered a graduate program (MSN) I am ineligible for any federal grants and scholarships and free money that is typically offered to students. This news was a total shock to me and I have been scrambling to think of alternative avenues to fund my education.

I have qualified for the maximum federal loans but I am still extremely short on the total tuition cost. Since I am carrying a balance from my previous student loans I do not have enough good credit to be able to get approved for a personal loan and I do not have the financial means to cover the balance on my own. While heartbroken with the possibility that due to financial hardship I might not be able to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse, I am trying to stay positive and have adopted the mantra "when there is a will there is a way."

I have worked very hard to maintain high marks through my anatomy and physiology series, microbiology, pathophysiology and other prerequisites courses as well as being involved at Stanford and Lucile Children's hospital both as a patient care employee as well as through many volunteer opportunities. Samuel Merritt has offered me a payment plan where the total tuition balance will be broken up to $5k per month over the next year, but I must meet this balance in order to continue on to the next term. (Every five weeks) While this buys me some time to get my funds in order, I am still unsure of where I can turn to. I am applying for a scholarship through both the hospital as well as from Samuel Merritt University, if awarded this should pay for a month or hopefully two of tuition costs.

I have dreamed of becoming a pediatric nurse for many years and I can't believe I am finally almost there; however, a HUGE hurdle has been placed in front of me. I ask that you please help me over it and I promise to continuously help those after me... I intend to "pay it forward."

This contribution would go strictly towards tuition and books owed. Please know, every little bit counts, dollars add up, and I am truly GRATEFUL for ANYTHING!!!

Many thanks,
Ali
