Un grupo de entre 400 a 800 personas se reúnen en "Ferme du Parc Maximilien” en Bruselas la capital de Bélgica, la mayoría son jóvenes hombres de entre 18 a 30 años, pero en algunos casos aún menores de edad, de países como Sudán, Libia, Siria, Etiopía y otros países que se encuentran actualmente en guerra o circunstancias extremadamente difíciles.
Estos jóvenes en su mayoría no tiene estatus oficial como refugiados o están inscritos en ningún tipo de organización o ante el gobierno de Bélgica para buscar asilo político ya que tienen miedo de ser deportados, y tiene la intención de llegar al Reino Unido, saben que hay casos donde el gobierno de Bélgica los ha deportado y al regresar a su país han sufrido encarcelamiento y en muchos casos tortura.
El gobierno considera esta situación en el parque como un gran problema, y no hay suficiente ayuda humanitaria para estos jóvenes que no tienen donde comer ni dormir.
He entrevistado a algunos de los jóvenes que duermen en el parque y es muy triste escuchar las historias de todo lo que han pasado para llegar hasta Bélgica, algunos han sido extorsionados y aún esclavos hasta un año o más en su paso por Libia, y muchos han muerto en el mar mediterráneo al tratar de llegar a Europa.
Algunos voluntarios y ciudadanos de Bruselas se han movilizado para alimentar y dar hospedaje, pero no es suficiente, los muchachos en el parque esperan todo el día a los voluntarios que vienen una o dos veces al día al rededor de las 7 pm a llevar un poco de comida y agua.
Mi nombre es Cynthia Carballo, mi objetivo es poder llevar comida al parque una vez por semana junto con un grupo de principalmente hispanos y otros voluntarios que han aceptado colaborar, cocinando, preparando y coordinando todo lo necesario.
Otro de los objetivos es poder documentar y concientizar acerca de la situación para poder atraer y crear una red más grande de ayuda, ya que es difícil encontrar suficiente información sobre este grupo de personas y conocer sus historias.
Al alcanzar la meta establecida aquí, podré ir semanalmente a "Ferme du Parc Maximilien". Podré proporcionar, organizar y movilizar lo que sea necesario cada semana. Gracias por su tiempo, empatía y consideración.

*(Originally I planned to provide 200 meals per week, but given the large number of people concentrated in the park I doubled the amount to be able to serve better, along with the other citizens of Brussels who have also mobilized)
A group made out of between 400 to 800 refugees gathers in “Ferme du Parc Maximilien” park in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. They come from countries such as Sudan, Libya, Syria, Ethiopia and others that are currently going through either war or other extremely tough circumstances, and most of them are men between 18 and 30 years old, but in many cases, they are minors.
As they fear of being incarcerated or tortured if deported back to their countries, the majority of the young men and women do not have an official refugee status, neither are they registered under any governmental organization that may help them search for political asylum while they wait and figure a way to get to England.
The government of Belgium considers this “park situation” a serious one, however, there is not enough humanitarian aid for the youth that currently have no place to sleep or eat.
I have personally interviewed some of the young people that sleep in the park and it is very sad and touching to hear some of the stories of their journey towards Belgium, especially common stories of some of them being extorted and even enslaved for periods of time that range between months and even years in countries such as Libya. The refugees told me that some have even died in the Mediterranean Sea while trying to get to Europe.
Some volunteers and citizens of Brussels have been planning to feed and even give lodging, but even with their initiatives, it is still not enough. The refugees wait all day long in the park until they see some volunteers that come twice a day to give them water and food.
My name is Cynthia Carballo and my goal is to be able to provide food once a weak. Together with a group of mainly Spanish-speaking Belgian citizens and some others, I am planning to prepare some kind of hot drink and some kind of bread, especially since the weather in Belgium is beginning to get colder as we are already starting to feel the cold breeze of fall. I will also try to document the situation so that I can attract and create a bigger social network that can be used to get support, especially as it is so difficult to find enough information and get to know the stories of these kinds of groups.
By reaching the goal set here , I will be able to weekly go to “Ferme du Parc Maximilien” I'll be able to provide, organize and mobilize what is need it to be there each week. Thank you for your time, empathy, and consideration.
