At the age of 33 with no family history, you don't expect the doctor to say "you have an aggressive form of breast cancer." In June 2017 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer Estrogen positive and HER2 positive. It came as a complete shock to me. I was told that the road ahead would be long and tough, but I was ready to fight. Having three kids one with severe special needs my mindset was to never give up. I knew my fitness journey would help me get a one up on this thing.
I started Crossfit in February 2012 and it taught me many things that I take in this cancer journey. You know those long workouts where you're in the middle of the workout and you say to yourself "what the heck was I thinking? I should have just stayed home", but you push through and somehow survived it? During those days where I'm feeling tired and a little sick I remind myself of how I pushed through those killer workouts and this is all temporary and I will get through. Crossfit has taught me to push through the tough times because the pain is temporary
