Alice Maxwell Elementary is a title one school with a superhero staff going above and beyond for their students in this challenging time. Daily wellness checks, donation and delivery of meals are just the tip of a HUGE iceberg. There is nothing in the budget for teacher appreciation because the all the money goes to the students and in some cases to their families. Other title-one schools have community "partners" who help with such things. Schools in more affluent neighborhoods don't need this sort of support.
Teirney Cahill, the principal, contacted Reno Type looking for a quote to produce a small appreciation gift for all 70 of the faculty. She was willing to pay for it out of her own pocket.
We had three thoughts. 1) More should be done. 2) The Principal shouldn't have to pay for it herself. 3) Teachers are superheroes... and we need to honor them.
The total cost for the basic plan (we're keeping the specifics on the down-low to preserve the element of surprise) is a little under $700. Reno Type has produced the work and is ready to deploy on May 4th. This gofundme is simply to recoup some portioin of our own costs.
If we manage to raise more than what is needed, we have a list of other important needs that will be funded.. like postcards and postage so teachers and students can improve their writing by writing to one another. The school maintains its own food bank, and teachers regularly contribute their own money to it. Any surplus will go there.
