It’s about more than beer...It's about survival

When founders Rich Romo and Kevin Drake opened Alibi Ale Works on 12/13/14, it was a deep desire to create something truly remarkable within their community. Since day one, Alibi set out to be a place for friends and family. We have always been the place of artistic expression, the start of new friendships, your best friend’s dinner table, a place of celebration for life’s great moments, and most importantly an inclusive second home to everyone. Sometimes the hardest part is to get them go to their actual homes.

Leap forward 5-years, and Alibi has become a pivotal and crucial part of the communities that we serve. We employ over 50+ team members at Alibi and serve thousands of people a year across our locations. After lockdown was lifted, we were able come back to nearly full staffing levels. Our team has endeavored to help us reinvent our business model to make Alibi a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. While times have been difficult, we now have the strongest and most dedicated team we could ever hope for. More than being just a part of our team, they have become our close friends and family, and it is our greatest desire to keep them with us now and far into the future.

COVID has quickly shattered the very nature of Alibi’s primary goal of bringing people close together. With winter quickly approaching, our future is uncertain due to the COVID19 social distancing measures. Like most places with indoor seating and the reality of social distance measures, our effective maximum occupancy will only be 25% regardless of what the State(s) dictate. Without safe outdoor dining we will be left with an impossible decision that will leave a hole in our hearts and in our social fabric.

Our current temporary outdoor dining space at our Truckee location was quickly created in May (with recycled/recovered artificial turf, sail shades, and chain-link fencing). It was designed only to operate in the summer months, not through the winter. Creating this outdoor area has been critical to our survival during the summer and fall by allowing our guest to remain outdoors and our employees to work in a safe and comfortable environment. However, winter is coming, and our summer outdoor creation will soon be no more, creating yet another blow to our local economy.

However, we are blessed to know we have a strong community that continues to support each and every one of us, making this a place we are proud to call home. Every day we feel inspired by the outpouring of support and compassion we have received in these uncertain times. But that alone is not enough to keep the lights on. We need your help!

With our successful fundraising efforts, it will enable us to build snow-rated gazebos with heaters to create a safe and functional year-round outdoor dining areas and beer gardens. Our vision is to create winterized beer gardens to continue providing outdoor dining, live music and socially distanced/safe events for the community to enjoy. Most importantly, these efforts will help us keep our team intact. Once indoor dining is allowed to resume, by maintaining a mix of indoor and outdoor dining options, we expect to be able to not only sustain, but to grow our business, grow our year-round team, and grow our impact in the communities that we call home.

With your help, our vision will allow us to maintain a safe social-distance outdoor dining not only through this winter but well into the future. Even after all COVID restrictions are lifted, we are committed to maintaining the same safe and fun outdoor dining for our community.

We understand that there are countless people and businesses in need. If you are able to help our cause, we would be beyond thankful to receive your support. All donations to this crusade will contribute to the resources we need to address our uncertain future.

Please stay in touch with us! Keep yourself up to date on our various social media channels and sign up for our newsletters. Share this with awesome people and stay healthy and safe. On behalf of our Alibi family, we thank you for taking the time to contribute and making our community greater moving into a better future.
