This is Pia Pamela Taguba, youngest daughter of Alfredicio Taguba.
I am organizing this in behalf of my family.
As you may know by now, our family suffered unimaginable loss last Christmas. It was December 24, 2020 in US and December 25, 2020 Christmas Day in the Philippines when we unexpectedly lost our dad, Alfredicio Taguba. He had been admitted to the hospital earlier in the month for COVID-19 in Hinsdale, Illinois.
Our dad spent the next two weeks in the Progressive ICU. Due to the nature of COVID-19, he could not have visitors. None of his friends or family could sit by his side or hold his hand for the duration of his challenging hospital stay.
Over those two weeks, thankfully my dad made a full recovery from COVID-19. He spent the next two weeks “on the floor” of the hospital regaining his strength and receiving physical therapy. My auntie Geraldine and her husband each took turns dropping meals to him at the hospital, although no visitors were allowed. My dad was able to receive calls from loved ones during his stay at the hospital for which we are all thankful.
Few days before Christmas, the hospital employees informed my aunt that my dad was getting ready to be discharged from the hospital. We were so excited as he was one step closer to go home. However, on Christmas Eve morning, my dad unexpectedly went into cardiac arrest and was successfully resuscitated. A few hours later, he suffered another cardiac arrest and no longer made it. It is absolutely heartbreaking that we could not be there for our dad.
For some, COVID-19 is an inconvenience. For my family, it has turned our entire world upside down. My sister and I live in the Philippines, and we are working on holding a service in a distant place to remember and honor him. But there are logistical and financial matters that need to be taken care of since we cannot travel to Illinois. My mom, along with my sister and I, are graciously asking for your support to help with the financial burden of services, upcoming medical bills, and legal bills among other things. We need your support now more than ever.
